The Illinois Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence

Founded in 1974 by a victim of handgun violence, the Brady Campaign, originally known as Handgun Control Inc., became the driving force for significant gun safety legislation in the 1980’s when Sarah Brady joined the organization. Her husband, former White House Press Secretary Jim Brady, was wounded in an assassination attempt on President Reagan in 1981.

The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) was founded in 1974 to combat gun violence. CSGV is a unique coalition of more than forty religious, labor, medical, educational and civic organizations.
