Consumer Federation of America Foundation
Contains several well-researched fact sheets about firearm safety and consumer protection. From their homepage, click on "publications" and then click on "guns". The 1999 National Gun Policy Survey is very interesting and includes statisitics on national attitudes on gun policy such as:
- 66 percent of all Americans, and 53 percent of all gun owners, want the federal government to regulate the safety design of guns.
- 74.5 percent of Americas think Congress should hold hearings to investigate the practices of the gun industry.
- 79 percent of Americans would favor a law that required private gun sales to be subject to the same background check requirements as sales by licensed dealers.

The Legal Community Against Violence is committed to reducing gun violence through education and regulation. LCAV's main project is the Firearms Law Center, which is designed to meet the growing nationwide demand for information and assistance regarding the regulation of firearms.

Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence
Founded in 1974 by a victim of handgun violence, the Brady Campaign, originally known as Handgun Control Inc., became the driving force for significant gun safety legislation in the 1980's when Sarah Brady joined the organization. Her husband, former White House Press Secretary Jim Brady, was wounded in an assassination attempt on President Reagan in 1981.

Coalition to Stop Gun Violence
The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) was founded in 1974 to combat gun violence. CSGV is a unique coalition of more than forty religious, labor, medical, educational and civic organizations. To accomplish these goals, CSGV engages in a vigorous and strategic program of lobbying the United States Congress and state legislatures. CSGV provides technical support to activist organizations across the country and maintains the grassroots publication Stop Gun Violence News.

Silent March
Throughout the year, the Silent march will collect and display shoes
representing the number of people killed in a single year: over thirty thousand. The shoes are sent by victims, family members and citizens fed up with the lack of
congressional action on gun legislation. This summer the shoes collected by the Silent march will be displayed at the Republican Convention in Philadelphia and the
Democratic Convention in Los Angeles.

American Jewish Congress
The American Jewish Congress has actively advocated for stronger gun laws since 1993 when it created the Jack Berman Advocacy Center, a nondenominational violence-reduction
and gun control project. Unlike other grassroots organizations, AJC is calling for several specific measures: mandatory background checks on buyers of any gun from any dealer,
licensing and registration, and mandatory safety devices on all guns sold. They are in the process of collecting one million signatures on a perition to be presented to Congress
demanding stronger gun-control measures.
